StoryFire Residency
WY Girls School, Sheridan WY

The Wyo Theater (Sheridan, WY) asked the Guy Mendilow Ensemble to lead a songwriting/storytelling residency at the WY Girls School, a therapeutic and educational facility for the treatment of court-ordered “delinquent” girls between the ages of 12-21.

This was the first residency in what would subsequently evolve into StoryFire. Humbled by the courage of young people navigating challenges that seemed to dwarf us, we began by listening. As form and content emerged, we provided tools to blur the boundaries between the girls’ stories and those of others, especially adults who might ordinarily dismiss them. We began with tools we ourselves use as composers, storytellers and songwriters.
